⚠️ Urgent Time Sensitivity
If the deceased has not yet been buried or cremated, contact our clinic immediately. We must coordinate an emergency chain-of-custody collection directly with the medical examiner, coroner, or funeral home director prior to embalming.
Direct Coordination with Coroners & Funeral Homes
We understand that the passing of a family member is a difficult time. Attempting to navigate the legal complexities of securing biological evidence for an estate claim shouldn't add to your burden.
Our Miami clinical team handles the entire legal DNA verification process for you. We coordinate directly with local Florida medical examiners, morgues, and funeral home directors. We provide them with specialized forensic collection kits and document the strict Chain of Custody required to ensure the DNA results are universally accepted by estate lawyers, Social Security offices, and Florida Probate Courts.
What If Direct DNA Is Unavailable?
If the deceased has already been interred or cremated, we offer scientifically valid alternative pathways to reconstruct their genetic profile and prove your relationship.
🧬
Medical Tissue Biopsies
If the deceased recently underwent a hospital procedure, we can formally request archived biological tissue blocks or medical slides from the hospital's pathology department.
👨👩👧👦
Family Reconstruction
By testing close living biological relatives of the deceased—such as their parents (grandparents), full siblings, or other children—we can definitively reconstruct the missing paternal lineage.
🏛️
Notarized Court Standards
Regardless of the pathway used, all estate DNA tests are processed in an AABB-accredited lab, mathematically verified by a PhD geneticist, and officially notarized for legal submission.

Does embalming ruin the DNA sample?
Standard embalming fluids contain formaldehyde, which severely degrades DNA. This is why it is critical to contact us before the embalming process begins. However, if embalming has occurred, our lab can still attempt extraction using deep tissue, femur bones, or fingernails, though viability drops.
Can I use a hairbrush or toothbrush from the deceased?
While we *can* extract DNA from an old toothbrush, razor, or hairbrush, these items are NOT court-admissible because there is no way to legally prove the item exclusively belonged to the deceased. These items can only be used for "Peace of Mind" non-legal results.
Will this test be accepted by Social Security and Florida Probate?
Yes. As long as the DNA is collected under an official chain of custody via a medical examiner or through authorized hospital pathology blocks, the resulting notarized AABB-accredited report is legally binding for inheritance, life insurance, and survivor benefits.
How do I test living relatives to prove paternity?
If the deceased father is unavailable, you can use our standard funnel to book a Grandparent, Sibling, or Avuncular (Aunt/Uncle) DNA test. This will compare the child's DNA against the deceased's immediate living relatives to confirm biological ties.
